Southwest Michigan vegetable update
On May 22, the following news about cucurbit crops was posted:
Direct seeding of cucumber, yellow squash and zucchini continues. Emergence and growth of earlier plantings is slow even under low tunnels.

West central Michigan vegetable update
There is no activity with cucurbits reported at this time.
Southeast Michigan vegetable update
On May 22 the following planting recommendations were posted:
Pumpkins typically go in in late May and early June, but soils are still in the 50s in much of our region.
On May 29, the following cucurbit information was posted:
Cucumbers on bare ground and black plastic are going out. The MSU Vegetable Pathology Lab has placed their downy mildew spore trap in our region; I will give updates on spore counts as the season progresses.
Pumpkin planting has not yet started. Rye cover crops will slow field drying and preparation.
Central Michigan vegetable update
There was no activity with cucurbits reported in May.
East Michigan vegetable update
On May 22 the following activites with cucurbits were posted:
Pickling cucumbers are just beginning to be seeded this week as conditions allow.
Zucchini, summer squash and cucumbers were being transplanted into the field on black plastic and under low-tunnels last week, and melons and watermelons have just started going out this week under low tunnels and hot caps. Continue Reading
